The Mekong

We have unbelievably just arrived at the mekong a stones throw away from burma or myanmar! The town is called, Thaton, and to get here we did the toughest ride yet, 120kms with a couple of very steep rides, one more than 10kms, over the mountains! What a reward to arrive here and get a hotel room on the river and to be able to stand on a bridge looking at the river we dreamed of. Very good room costs $10 and our meal tonight, with beer, $7.50!

 

Also a photo of the oldest wooden buddha statues in the world, made of teak, that we visited on the way up here today.

Incroyable ! Nous sommes enfin arrivés au Mékong, à un jet de pierre de la Birmanie ( ou du Myanmar ). La ville s'appelle Thaton et pour y arriver nous avons fait notre étape la plus dure depuis le début : 120 kms avec quelques côtes bien raides, dont un de plus de 10 kms, en traversant la montagne ! Quelle récompense d'arriver ici, de trouver une chambre d’hôtel sur la rivière, et de pouvoir se tenir sur un pont à regarder cette rivière dont nous rêvions. Une très bonne chambre coute 10 $ et le repas de ce soir 7,5 $ bière comprise !

Avec ce post : une photo du plus vieux bouddha en bois du monde ( en teck ) que nous avons visité en route aujourd'hui.
